Mr. John Willie "Borat" Scott




Mr. John Willie Scott, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at his residence in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Walden officiating.


He was born on November 28, 1948 to his loving mother, the late Mrs. Lillar Scott.


At an early age, John accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a member of Tennille Grove Baptist Church, Tennille, Georgia. John loved to share the word of the Lord. He made a point to text or call his family and friends an encouraging word every morning.


John attended T.J. Elder High School, Sandersville, Georgia and graduated with the class of 1964. He was an awesome baseball and basketball player for the T.J. Elder Tigers. His passion for baseball lead him to play for the Tennille Bombers. There he earned the nickname “Borat.”


He was a veteran of Vietnam War and served in the Army, HQ 4th BN25th Infantry Division from 1968 - 1970. He was awarded two of the upmost prestige's medals; a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, followed by the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Army Commendation Medal. John worked as a warehouse man for GSA. He gracefully retired after twenty (20) years of service.


On May 24, 1984, an unbreakable bond was created. John married the love of his life, Mrs. Leola Scott. John and Leola were blessed to have thirty seven (37) inspiring years together. His passion for bowling created a special bond with his daughter Vanina (Nina). He was an avid bowler with the Tuesday Morning Senior League, Austell, Georgia.


Mr. Scott leaves a loving family to cherish his memories. Those memories are left to his loving, caring and devoted wife: Mrs. Leola Scott, Lithia Springs, Georgia; two daughters: Mrs. ShaRon “Sherry” (Stratford) Scott-Doyle, Ms. Vanina Carlton, Douglasville, Georgia; one son: Mr. Christopher “Tony” Scott, Douglasville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Cedric Battle, Chrystal Scott, Dastany Scott, Christopher Scott, Jr., Christie Scott, Desiree Scott, Caden Scott, Devin Doyle; four great grandchildren Keith Simmons, Jordan Simmons, Keilani Simmons, Kharter Battle; sister-in-law: Mrs. Carol (James) Dixon; brother-in-law: Mr. David Harrison; a host of other relatives and friends.
