Ms. Retha Lee Wilson
Ms. Retha Lee Wilson passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Heritage Inn Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at New Birth Christian Ministries with Senior Pastor Patrick Wilson, Sr. officiating.
She was born in Tennille, Georgia on December 27, 1941 to the parentage of the late Mrs. Curtis Lee Wilson and Mr. Otis Wilson, Sr.
At an early age she joined Union Hill Baptist Church; later she joined New Birth Christian Ministries under the leadership of Senior Pastor Patrick Wilson, Sr.
She attended T.J. Elder High School. She worked as a CNA at Wrightsville Manor in her early adult years; and later started at Royal Manufacturers as a line worker until she became a homemaker after relocating to Augusta, Georgia in the mid 1980’s being a devoted caregiver for Clem McDavid and Maggie DeSouza for years until her retirement.
Ms. Wilson was a great seamstress. She only sewed for her family, especially the girls. Retha enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner for her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Mr. Stanley Simmons; two sisters: Mrs. Betty (Billy) Sanders, Ms. Bernistine Wilson; one brother: Mr. Otis Wilson, Jr.
Ms. Wilson leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters: Mrs. Deborah (Ronnie) Butts, Jacksonville, Florida, Ms. Tonjineal Simmons, Tennille, Georgia, Mrs. Denise (John) Hales, Augusta, Georgia; four sons: Dea. Tony (Laura) Simmons, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. George E. (Teresa) Simmons, Mr. Carl Simmons, Mr. Ricardo G. (Monickie) Simmons, Sr., Tennille, Georgia; two sisters: Mrs. Carolyn Bloodsaw, Sandersville, Georgia, Ms. Mary Miller, Tennille, Georgia; one brother: Mr. Ronnie Walker, Boston, Massachusetts; goddaughter: Ms. Veronica Bogans, Augusta, Georgia; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Sherry Simmons, Tennille, Georgia; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Shirley (Wayne) Hodges, Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Mary Hooks-Walker, Warthen, Georgia; devoted friends: Mrs. Missy (Steve) DeSouza, Mr. Clem McDavid, Mrs. Maggie DeSouza Gregory; eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Our deepest condolences to Deborah my classmate, Tony and the rest of the family. I’ve known Mrs. Retha Lee for many years. I last talked with her at the hospital where she and I had a lovely conversation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God’s peace, comfort and healing rest upon you as you continue your journey.
