Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Kitchen Hatcher



Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Kitchen Hatcher, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Hatcher officiating. Interment was held at Second Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell, Georgia.


Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Kitchen Hatcher, affectionately known as “Nunny,” was born on May 9, 1932 to the parentage of the late Mr. George Kitchen, Sr. and Mrs. Gertrude Kitchen of Mitchell, Georgia.

 

She attended the public schools of Washington County, Georgia.


At an early age, she joined Second Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Mitchell, Georgia.


On April 27, 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Ellis Hatcher with whom she shared  fifty five (55) years of marriage. This union was blessed with twelve (12) children.


She was employed at Royal Manufacturing Company for  ten years and then later became a private duty nurse at Washington County Extended Care Facility until her retirement.


Mrs. Hatcher was a true believer of God and always spoke His words. She always gave words of wisdom to her family and everyone else with whom she encountered. Her favorite saying was “Stay at the foot of Jesus.”  She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them. She also loved cooking and on any day whenever you stopped by, there was always a warm meal waiting.


She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mr. Bransom Kitchen, Mr. William Kitchen, Mr. George Kitchen, Jr., Mr. James Walter Kitchen, Mrs. Sally Fowler, Mr. Olandis Kitchen; and grandchildren: Mr. Walter Cheely and Mrs. Felicia Hatcher Walker.


Mrs. Hatcher leaves to cherish her memories and carry her legacy seven daughters: Mrs. Ida Cheely Gindraw, Mrs. Mae Ellis (Kevin) Jacobs, Mrs. Marcella (Rev. Louis) Neal, Mrs.  Joanne Ellison, Mrs. Betty Sue Bryant all of Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Dorothy Jean (Vonion) Heggs of Louisville, Georgia, Ms. Barbara Hatcher of Tennille, Georgia; five sons: Mr. Frank Hatcher, Mr. Jimmie (Janice) Hatcher, Rev. Calvin (Gwinnie) Hatcher all of Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Terry (Alfreda) Hatcher of Tennille, Georgia, Mr. Joe (Demetria) Hatcher of Lawrenceville, Georgia; three sisters: Mrs. Lettie Dean Brown, Mrs. Mary Louise Youngblood, Mrs. Karolyn Taylor all of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother: Mr. John Carl Kitchen of  Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters-in-law: Ms. Lorene Hatcher of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Vassie Hatcher of Sandersville, Georgia; thirty six (36) grandchildren; seventy four (74) great grandchildren; thirty four (34) great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, caregivers and friends.
