Dr. Monica Haynes


Dr. Monica Haynes, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil A. Moore, Jr. officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.


Dr. Monica Sharee Haynes -a caring, God-fearing, committed, determined, fierce, no nonsense, strong-willed, generous, confident and fun loving woman with a friendly personality and magnetic spirit. She was known as “Feet” to most of her family. Friends knew her as Dr. Haynes or Monica.


God saw fit to call Dr. Monica Haynes home on Friday, February 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and friends. “He said, well-done thou good and faithful servant.”


Monica joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.


Dr. Haynes graduated from Washington County High School, class of 1989. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Georgia Southern University in 1994, her Masters of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University in 2010 and her Doctorate in Social Work from Capella University in 2015. She was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., where she was initiated into the Nu Omicron Chapter in the Fall of 1993.


Her love and passion for children began at an early age. She loved caring for her younger family members and would often call them her children. Upon graduating from Georgia Southern University, she obtained employment with the Washington County School System. She began working with the Washington County Negro Business & Professional Women (NB&PW) Headstart/Pre-K Program in 1995.


In 2001, Dr. Haynes accepted a position with the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Atlanta, Georgia. She began her career with DFCS in the Foster Care Division and later transferred to Adoptions as a Case Manager in 2003. In this department, she held positions as Case Manager, Supervisor and her latest position held was an Administrator. Dr. Haynes was named the “Adoption Queen” within the agency due to having a high number of adoptions.


Monica was full of life and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music and was a Mickey Mouse fanatic. Monica was an avid wrestling and Atlanta Falcons fan. During her down time, she enjoyed watching her favorite television shows. Among her favorites were World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), The Young & The Restless and the Bold & the Beautiful.


She was preceded in death by her father: Mr. Willie Martin; sister: Ms. Janice Haynes and brother: Mr. Dexter Martin.


Dr. Haynes leaves cherished memories to her mother: Ms. Gennie Mae Haynes; step-mother: Mrs. Emma Martin; five sisters: Ms. Kimberly Haynes, Mrs. Tabitha (Dr. Michael) S. Parker, Mrs. Pamela (Melvin) Johnson, Ms. Victoria Taylor, Ms. Deborah Wiley; grandmother: Ms. Lena Mae Martin; aunt: Ms. Dorothy Miles; three godchildren: Mr. Tremaine Johnson, Ms. Kierra Collins, Ms. Jazmyne Collins; devoted cousins: Ms. Gwendolyn White, Ms. Rochelle Washington, Ms. Maleta Collins, Ms. Tamica Gibbs, Mrs. Briana Nelson, Mr. Brandon Gibbs, Mr. William Myrick, Ms. Tialesha Myrick, Ms. Lauren Myrick, Mr. Layton Myrick; an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
