Mrs. Laura Brookins


Mrs. Laura Brookins, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Albany, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Bay Spring Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Dudley officiating. Interment was be held in the church cemetery.

She was born on May 8, 1930 in Washington County, Georgia where she spent most of her life before relocating to Albany, Georgia.

Laura Bell, affectionately known as “Sister”, liked flowers, good gospel singing, sweet treats, tea cakes, fishing, red lipstick, shopping for pretty dresses, and spreading the word of God. She was musically inclined and loved to sew. It is rumored that she had a mean left hook if she got riled up.

Sister was known as a giver who would give her all to help someone in need.

She was baptized at Green Grove Baptist Church, Sandersville, Georgia at an early age and later in life became a member of the Bay Spring Baptist Church where she sung in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. John Thomas Jones, Sr. and Mrs. Lenora Johnson Jones; her brothers: Mr. John Thomas Jones, Jr., Mr. Eddie Willie Jones and Mr. James Earl Jones; sisters: Mrs. Victoria Lane, Mrs. Juanita Wilson and Mrs. Barbara Watts; special friend, Mr. Polie Lee James.

Mrs. Brookins leaves to mourn her passing six children: Mrs. Peggy (Clarence) Mitchell, Ms. Sandra Ingram, Mrs. Regina (Gerry) Whearry, Mr. Eddie Brookins, Mr. Lloyd (Bernita) Brookins, Mr. Gerald Brookins; three brothers: Mr. Booker T. Jones, Mr. Harold (Gabriella) Jones; Mr. Louis (Betty) Jones; one sister: Ms. Dorothy McArthur; six grandchildren: Ms. Jennifer Poole, Ms. Mesha Arter Ms. Cassandra Ingram, Mr. Kendrick (Rosalyn) Poole, Mr. Philmon Chambers, Ms. Jada Pitts; thirteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
