Mr. David Cummings


Mr. David Cummings, Sandersville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018. Memorial services were held on Friday, May, 4, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sandersville United Methodist Church.

He was born on March 18, 1960 in Decatur, GA to the parentage of the late Mr. David Franklin Cummings and the late Mrs. Josephine Newsome Cummings.

David attended the public school system of Washington County and graduated a Star Student in the class of 1978. He attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC earning a degree in Geology in 1982. David studied geology at the University of Kansas where he earned a Master’s Degree in 1985. While at Guilford, he met Mrs. Katherine Helms Cummings and they were married June 23, 1984. This union was blessed with two children.

His love of science served him throughout his career at Imerys in Sandersville. His colleagues recalled how he would go all out for the Annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party. David was an avid outdoorsman that loved kayaking, canoeing, hiking and cycling. He would often take his grandchildren on canoeing and kayaking trips on the various lakes and rivers in and around Washington County. Growing up, David attended Camp High Rocks in Brevard, NC. He passed his love of finding serenity in nature to his children, grandchildren.

David was an excellent cook like his mother and father before him. His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews loved his dessert that he only made on special occasions called “Bonzo Cake” that originated at Murphy’s in Virginia Highlands, Atlanta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. David Frank Cummings, Mrs. Josephine Newsome Cunnings and grandson: Brayer Logue.

Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife Mrs. Katherine Helms Cummings, Sandersville, GA; two daughters: Ms. McKinsey Cummings, Sandersville, GA, Mrs. Mary Michael (Kyle) Logue, Statesboro, GA; three grandchildren: Ella, Chase, Parker; two brothers: Mr. Newsome (Carol) Cummings, Clermont, GA, Mr. Jim Cummings, Hillsboro, NC; two sisters-in-law: Ms. Cathy Turner, Hillsboro, NC, Ms. Mary Helms, Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law: Mrs. Mary Alice Helms, Winston Salem, NC; a host of other relatives and friends.
