Mr. Sammie Lee Dixon, Sr.


Mr. Sammie Lee Dixon, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Dixon Grove COGIC with Elder Jeremiah Wooten officiating. Public viewing will take place at the church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 11 A.M. until the hour of the service.


Mr. Dixon was born on July 3, 1937 to the parentage of the late Mr. Jessie Dixon and the late Mrs. Mabel Roberson Dixon.


In February 1958, he moved to Pennsylvania where he worked at Worthington Construction for forty (40) years as a backhoe and other equipment operator. He had many other skills in building, carpentry and electrical. He retired from the company in 1998.


Mr. Dixon was a devoted spiritual man who was a member of The Church of Christ in Trenton, New Jersey while in Pennsylvania. He was also a member of Church of Christ in Louisville, Georgia.


He was a great, loving and hard working man who cared for his family and friends. The same would be said by many who he has encountered thru his eighty-six (86) years on this earth. He will be greatly missed by all. In 1998, he finally moved back to Georgia, where he built his family home with the assistance of his brother Tommie, on the family land on Dixon Grove Road.


He was preceded in death by his siblings: Mrs. Annie Mary Clark Prosser, Ms. Elizabeth Travis, Ms. Ruth Brown, Mrs. Rosa Lee Bridges Williams, Mr. J.D. Dixon, Ms. Louise Bridges, Ms. Bessie White, Mr. Nathaniel Dixon, Mr. willie Dixon, Mr. Robert Dixon, Mr. Earnest Dixon, Mr. Tommie Dixon; son: Mr. Stanley Dixon; grandson: Mr. Rodney Simmons, Jr.


Mr. Dixon leaves cherished memories to his wife: Mrs. Mildred Dixon of Tennille, Georgia; daughter: Ms. Doris Dixon of Levittown, Pennsylvania; sons: Mr. Eddie Lewis of Greenville, South Carolina, Mr. Sammie Lee (Bernie) Dixon, Jr. of Hawaii, Mr. John Dixon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Kelvin Dixon of Hellertown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Greg Dixon of Tennille, Georgia, Mr. Gable (Gina) Dixon of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; fifteen (15) grandchildren; seventeen (17) great grandchildren; one (1) great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
