Mr. Reginald Cornelius Gordy, affectionately known as “Nunk” by his classmates and friends, departed this life on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Piedmont Macon Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.

He was born in Washington County, Sandersville, Georgia on September 5, 1957, to the parentage of the late Mr. Robert Daniel Gordy, Sr. and Mrs. Eloise Dawson Gordy.

Cornelius graduated from Washington County High School in 1975. After graduation, he continued his education at Fort Valley State University. On July 26, 1981, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served for ten years as a Field Radio Operator.

He was honored with the Rifle Marksman Badge, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 stars) and Good Conduct Medal. During his lifetime, he held many positions including Georgia State Trooper, Postal Worker with the United States Postal Service and Heavy Equipment Operator at Rheem Manufacturing Company.

After retiring, Cornelius enjoyed taking care of the family property. His greatest past time was not only cutting the fields, but the yards of many family members of the community. He would often be seen cutting grass on the tractor as he sang his favorite songs. He was a very generous person who loved helping all he knew. He rarely said “no” to anyone. Cornelius loved to listen to music, attend church, watch football and attend family functions. He really enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Neek.”

Cornelius joined Gordy Grove Church of God In Christ at an early age. His love for Christ was evident through his many acts of kindness and his love for others. Being the tech guru that he was, he took pride in making sure that the technology in the church worked properly.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Mr. Ronnie Renfroe, niece: Mrs. Yolanda Shari Coar and great niece: Miss Whitney Deneyce Jordan.

He will always be cherished by his siblings: Mrs. Gwendolyn Gordy Murphy, Warner Robins, Georgia; Mrs. June Swint Bell, Riverdale, Georgia; Mr. Robert Daniel Gordy, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. David (Darlene) Gordy, Sandersville, Georgia; Mrs. Deborah Anne Gordy (Rev.
