Deacon J.W. Wiley




Deacon J.W. Wiley, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at his residence. Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Corian Roberson officiating.


I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day, and not to me only but also to allow all who have loved His appearing 2 Timothy 4:7-9


On December 31, 2020, Deacon J. W. Wiley, transitioned peacefully at his home.


John Willie Wiley was born on April 19, 1929, to the parentage of the late Mr. Jimmy Wiley and the late Mrs. Cora Allen Wiley.


He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Ms. Ruby Mae Walker. This union was blessed with seven children; two of whom preceded him in death: Mr. Albert Wiley, Sr. and Mr. Bobby Lee Wiley.


He was well known and respected in the Washington County community and will be truly missed by all.


At an early age, he joined Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was later ordained as a deacon under Rev. William Dixon. He served in many areas of the church and worked faithfully until his health declined. He was president of the Sons and Daughters of Bethel Society of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.


Deacon Wiley was educated in the Washington County Public School System.


He was one of the founding members of the Warthen Community Savings Club and served as president for many years. He was an avid farmer, who enjoyed sharing his fresh vegetables with his family and friends. Later in life he began a career at the Sparta Furniture Factory where he worked until he retired.


Deacon Wiley leaves to cherish his memories, five daughters: Ms. Ruby Lee Wiley, Warthen, GA, Ms. Shirley Mae Wiley, Decatur, GA, Ms. Beryl Hogan, Sacramento, CA, Ms. Lavern Wiley, College Park, GA, Rev. Mimi (Dr. Michael) Robinson, Fayetteville, GA; one grandson that he reared as his own: LTC Sidney (Stacy) Braddy, Honolulu, HI; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Dorothy Wiley, Aiken, SC; mother-in-law: Mrs. Mary Frances Walker, Warthen, GA; two sisters: Ms. Cora Lee Braddy, Sandersville, GA, Ms. Maggie Wiley, Warthen, GA; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Reba Neal, Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Jessie Lee Chatman, Mrs. Minnie Lovette, Warthen, GA, Mrs. Mary Lewis, Mrs. Lillie Ruth (Mark) Stewart, Hephzibah, GA; brothers-in-law: Mr. Oscar Womble, Sr., Atlanta, GA, Mr. Willie Walker, Warthen, GA, Apostle Tom (Betty) Walker, Sandersville, GA, Mr. Charlie (Ruby) Brown, Sandersville, GA; dedicated caregivers: Ms. Precious Armstrong, Mrs. Shirley Armstrong, Mr. Eddie Armstrong, Warthen, GA, Ms. Mattie Jackson, Sandersville, GA; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; special nephews: Mr. Tommie Wiley, Mr. Eddie Ray Wiley, Mr. Donnie Wiley; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
