Ms. Melvia Jean Outlaw


Ms. Melvia Jean Outlaw, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Wrightsville Manor Nursing Home, Wrightsville, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Burnett Grove A.M.E. Church with Pastor Juanita Outlaw officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.


Ms. Melvia Jean Outlaw, affectionately known as “Red,” was born on December 22, 1943 in Washington County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Eddie Rufus Outlaw and the late Mrs. Ella Venia Outlaw.


At an early age, she joined Burnett Grove AME Church.

Early in life, she would leave Wrightsville, Georgia and move to Atlanta, Georgia. She worked at Simmons Bedding Company until she retired in 2008. She relocated to Wrightsville, Georgia and resided at Wrightsville Manor.


On Monday, December 19, 2022, our beloved Melvia Jean Outlaw was called home. She left behind a legacy of love, humanity and service to her family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her two brothers: Mr. Eddie Will Outlaw, Mr. Thurnel Outlaw; sister: Mrs. Louise Devero and an adopted brother: Mr. JW Scott.


Ms. Outlaw leaves to mourn her legacy, three sons: Mr. Dwan Outlaw, Minister Ondra (Minister Carla) Outlaw, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Elder Gerald (Pastor Juanita) Outlaw, Augusta, Georgia; five sisters: Ms. Angelus Outlaw, Mrs. Brenda (Tony) Hood, Ms. Lila London, Ms. Linda Brannam, Wrightsville, Georgia, Ms. Brennette Williams, Atlanta, Georgia; one brother: Mr. Bruce (Robin) Graddy, Atlanta, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
