Mrs. Gladys Stephens Hooks
Mrs. Gladys Stephens Hooks, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Eastside Medical Center, Snellville, Georgia. Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 12 noon at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Henry L. Tanner officiating.
Mrs. Gladys Stephens Hooks departed this life on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Eastside Medical Center.
Mrs. Hooks was born on June 29, 1947 in Washington County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Roberta Wiley Stephens and the late Mr. Willie Stephens, Sr.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Rock Chapel United Methodist Church in Lithonia, GA until her health failed.
Mrs. Hooks graduated from TJ Elder High School in 1965. After graduation she moved to Jacksonville, FL to attend Lincoln Business College. While there she lived with her Aunt Millie and Cousin Mary Lee. Upon graduation, the adventure continued, and she moved to Newark, NJ where her daughter was born. To be closer to her mom, “Madea,” her brothers packed her up and moved her back to Georgia. She later retired from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, she loved sending and receiving greeting cards. She could watch Golden Girls and Gunsmoke everyday and nobody could touch her oxtails.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Mr. Willie Stephens, Jr., Mr. Bobby Stephens, Sr.; niece: Ms. Talicha Stephens and nephew: Mr. Bobby Stephens, Jr.
Mrs. Hooks leaves to cherish her memories, her spouse: Mr. John David Hooks, Tennille, GA; daughter: Mrs. Joi (Wendell) Lofton, Snellville, GA; grandchildren: Gabriel Lofton, Zoie Lofton, Daniel Lofton, Snellville, GA; sister: Mrs. Lena Green Young, Rochester, NY; brother: Mr. Albert (Paula) Stephens: Huntsville, AL; aunts: Mrs. Maime Reeves, Sandersville, GA, Mrs. Dorothy Lewis, Las Vegas, NV; niece: Ms. Daphnne Brown; nephews: Mr. Albert (Shana) Stephens, Mr. Hugh Brown, Jr., Mr. Dushawn (Noreen) Andrews, Mr. Darrell (Gloria) Stephens, Mr. Tony Elbert; sister-in-law: Mrs. Dorothy Stephens; sisters-in-love: Ms. Shealia Stephens, Mrs. Ruby Odom; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Gladys truly enjoyed reading greeting cards and the family has asked that you place one last greeting card in the basket in front of her casket.
