Mrs. Ella Mae Brown




Mrs. Ella Mae Cooper Brown, affectionately known as “Granny”, departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Washington County Regional Medical Center, Sandersville, Georgia. .Graveside services were held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Reeves officiating..


Mrs. Brown was born on September 19, 1932 in Sandersville, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Vance “Fur” Cooper, Sr. and the late Mrs. Daisy Bentley Cooper.


At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, Warthen, Georgia. She was the Mother of the Church and a faithful and dedicated member. She served on various auxiliaries including, Usher Board, President of Food Committee, President of the Missionary Department and Trustee Board.


Mrs. Brown worked with the Missionary Department of the Hancock Missionary Baptist Association for several years. She was a member of the Washington County Elderite Association, Inc.


She attended school at Thomas Jefferson Elder High School, Sandersville, Georgia. She was employed by Delta Woodside Industries, Inc., where she retired after twenty eight (28) years of dedicated service.


She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Joe Brown on January 26, 1958. This union was blessed with three children.

Mrs. Ella Mae loved the Lord, and it was exemplified in her everyday life. Her smile and laughter would lighten up a room. She loved her family, church family and friends. She enjoyed watching sports, especially football, basketball and baseball. The referees did not have a chance with “Granny”.


She was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. Joe Brown; eight siblings: Mr. Vance Cooper, Jr., Mrs. Gertrude Flemmings, Mrs. Lillian Watts, Mrs. Lureatha Mitchell, Mrs. Minnie King, Mr. Lonnie Cooper, Sr., Mrs. Mildred Cage and Mr. Charlie W. Cooper.


Mrs. Brown leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted daughter: Ms. Deborah Ann Brown, Sandersville, Georgia; two sons: Mr. Algra “Al” Brown, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Louis (Lois) Brown, Sr., Buford, Georgia; three grandchildren: Ms. Arshapalla S. Brown, Buford, Georgia, Mr. Louis Brown, Jr., Jersey City, New Jersey, Mrs. Jacinda (Justin) Williams, Macon, Georgia; two great grandchildren: Takiel Williams, Jailee Williams, Macon, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lillie Cooper, Saginaw, Michigan, Mrs. Elvenia Cuyler, Augusta, Georgia, Mrs. Mattie (Freddie) Freeman, Mrs. Betty Jackson, Macon, Georgia, devoted nephew: Mr. Fred Watts, Sandersville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
