Mrs. Betty Richardson


Mrs. Betty Richardson passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at a local hospital. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Georgia Grove Baptist Church with Elder Jessie Mountain officiating. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.


She was born on January 6, 1953 in Washington County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. Robert Lee Tukes and the late Mrs. Katherine Henderson Tukes.

At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Georgia Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

She married Mr. Tommie Richardson on September 13, 1974. They were blessed with forty six (46) years of marriage.


Mrs. Richardson worked at RJ Stubbard, Mohawk Industries, Smith Medical Nursing Care Center, The Front Porch and Wrightsville Manor Nursing Home until she retired December 26, 2020.

Betty was a wonderful person who enjoyed family and friends. She loved cooking with a passion. Whenever someone called and asked her to cook no matter the occasion she did it with a smile and love. She would cook for her family any day of the week. She loved fishing with her sisters. She enjoyed attending church. Betty always had a smile on her face and love in her heart. She would always tell you how she felt and ask what now, then smile. Everyone knew her as Grandma and she wore that title with pride and joy. Whenever any of her grandchildren would ask her to do something she was always willing to do for them no matter the occasion.


She was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Mr. Travarris M. Tukes, Jr., Ms. Jhanasia Tukes, Ms. Kaylii Monroe; and three brothers: Mr. Willie James Henderson, Mr. Freddie Lee Tukes and Mr. Rickey Lee Tukes.


Mrs. Richardson leaves to cherish her memories, her husband: Mr. Tommie Richardson, Sandersville, GA; children: Mrs. Kather (Dale) Roberson, Waynesboro, GA, Ms. Charlene Tukes, Mr. Steven (Kimberly) Richardson, Tennille, GA, Mr. Travarris (Brandy) Tukes, Grovetown, GA; grandchildren reared as her own: Mr. Stanques Tukes, Mr. Antwan Tukes, Mr. Stetson Richardson, Mr. Jakori Richardson, Ms. Qunetta Tukes, Ms. Vakeshia Tukes; sisters: Mrs. Susan (Casey) Rogers, Mrs. Brenda (Bennie Frank) James, Mrs. Katherlene (Sanford) Braddy, Mrs. Ollie Tukes (Amos Williams), Ms. Martha Faye Tukes; brother: Mr. Earnest “Bo” Tukes; grandchildren: Ms. Shundrekia Tukes, Ms. Brennell Tukes, Mr. Derrick James, Ms. Dealeatrice Tukes, Ms. Chantara Tukes, Ms. Kebrana Warthen, Ms. Alexis Tukes, Ms. Shanzekia Kitchens; great aunt: Ms. Martha Tukes; sisters-in-law: Ms. Lula Mae Brown, Ms. Janie Williams; brothers-in-law: Mr. Leroy (Lois) Richardson, Mr. William (Jeanette) Richardson; devoted friends: Ms. Ann Hagans, Ms. Lois Collins, Ms. Vivian Grant, Mrs. Karen Harper; Ms. Sjokia Johnson; a host of great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
