Mr. S. D. James



Mr. Sam D. James, Jr., affectionately known as “SD:, departed this life on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta, Georgia. Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Daniel James officiating.


Mr. James was born on May 13, 1949 to the parentage of the late Mr. S. D. James, Sr. and the late Ms. Annie Mae Lamar.


S. D. joined St. Galilee Baptist Church, Tybee Community, at an early age and later transferred his membership to Victory Baptist Church in East Point, Georgia.


Mr. James attended T. J. Elder High School. After high school, he relocated to East Point, Georgia. On July 12, 1971, he married Ms. Carolyn Francis. They raised two sons: Jerald and Michael. He was employed by the Fulton County School System for many years. He retired from Brookview Elementary School in 2012.


He enjoyed spending time with his only grandchild and three great grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, especially the home teams. S. D. was very passionate about the World Champions, Atlanta Braves.


Mr. James leaves to cherish his memories, his wife: Mrs. Carolyn James, Atlanta, Georgia; two sons: Mr. Jerald Francis, Mr. Michael Francis, Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters: Mrs. Annie (Gary) McGill, Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Carolyn (Benjamin) Renfroe, Milledgeville, Georgia; two brothers: Rev. Daniel (Terri) James, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Matthew (Bernice) James, Milledgeville, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Ms. Linda Strowbridge, Ms. Angelina James, Sandersville, Georgia, Ms. Dorothy Thomas, Ms. Lisa Miller, Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law: Mr. Larry Francis, Sandersville, Georgia; one granddaughter: Ms. Ashlie Francis, College Park, Georgia; three great grandchildren: Kyla Francis, Amyah Freeman, Aiden Francis, College Park, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.
