Mr. Eugene Thomas




Mr. Eugene Thomas passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Wellstar MCG. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Green Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Rufus Copeland officiating. Interment was held in Camp Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.


Eugene was a beloved brother, nephew, uncle and friend; known for his steadfast dedication to family, community and country.


Born on July 22, 1964, to the late Mrs. Mary Ellen Thomas and the late Mr. Joe Tillman.


 Eugene grew up in Sandersville, Georgia, and graduated from Washington County High School in the Class of 1982. Following graduation, Eugene embarked on a distinguished career in the military, serving his country with honor for ten years. Upon leaving the military, he devoted over twenty years as a youth correctional officer, mentoring and guiding countless young people.


He was a man of great integrity, compassion and wisdom. He cherished his family and friends, always offering a warm smile accompanied by an infectious laugh, a kind word and unwavering support. His presence brought comfort to many, and his legacy of service and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him.


Mr. Thomas leaves cherished memories to his seven siblings: Dr. Julius (Shelia) Thomas, Mr. Ronnie (Janice) Tillman of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Floyd Thomas of White Plains, Maryland, Mrs. Shirley (Johnny) Spencer, Ms. Marian Gaynor of Tennille, Georgia, Mr. Anthony (Joyce) Thomas of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Mr. Jerold V. (Rhonda) Tillman of Sandersville, Georgia; aunt: Mrs. Sarah (Rev. Dr. Rufus) Copeland of Augusta, Georgia; uncles: Mr. Marvin Reynolds, Mr. Curtis (Mary-Ann) Tillman, Mr. Charlie Brown of Sandersville, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, a close circle of other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.


Eugene lived a life of purpose, service and love. Though he will be greatly missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
