Mr. Lee Arthur Moore

Mr. Lee Arthur Moore, affectionately known as "Mohawk", passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 in Bethesda, Maryland. Graveside services were held privately by the family on Monday, April 27, 2020 Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Deepstep, Georgia with Rev. Rufus Copeland officiating.

Lee Arthur Moore, Sr was born June 21, 1940 to Willie Lee Moore and Tressie Mae Peeler Wiggins in Washington County, GA. Lee Arthur, or “Mohawk” as he was affectionately known by many, peacefully departed this world on Saturday, April 18, 2020.

Lee Arthur enjoyed a full life starting with his humble beginnings in Deepstep, GA. He received his formal education from California Junior High School, and countless invaluable life lessons were instilled in him by his beloved maternal grandmother Mary Renfroe Peeler and his paternal grandfather Leron Moore,who lovingly referred to him as Lil’ Captain. They taught him, by example, the value of family and community as well as a strong work ethic. Armed with these life lessons, Lee Arthur began his professional career in the trucking industry with the Cecil Hodges Lumber Company and later with the Howard Sheppard Trucking Company from where he retired in 2006. His more than 40-year career provided him with the opportunity to support his family and travel extensively nationwide.

Lee Arthur was preceded in death by his wife Cherry Swint Moore and two children, Rose Regina Moore,and Lee Arthur Moore, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memories include: three sons: Melvin Moore, College Park, MD; Anthony Bouyer, Sandersville, GA; and Darwin (Tonya) Johnson, Raeford, NC; three daughters: Shenia Moore, Stone Mountain, GA, Christie Foster, Dultuh, GA and Kimberlee Moore,College Park, MD; nine grandchildren: Aneesah Smart, Bensalem, PA, Karema Ivey, Fayetteville, NC, Khalfini Richardson, Trenton, NJ, Ayjanah Moore, Atlanta, GA, Keiona Johnson, Raeford, NC, Trilena Walker, Tampa, FL, Dakarai Johnson, Raeford, Malik Moore, Stone Mountain, GA and Khalil Halle, Pottstown, PA; seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Julius Moore, Sandersville, GA and John Arthur Moore (Valencia), Norfolk, VA; three sisters: Delois Peeler, Milledgeville, GA, Peggy Moore, Philadelphia,PA and Diane Blakely (Thomas), Winston-Salem, NC; three brothers-in-law: Bennie Swint, Box Springs, GA, Lawson Swint, Sandersville, GA, and Thomas Blakely, Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters-in-law: Ann Swint, Houston, TX, Betty Swint, Austin, TX, and Valencia Moore, Norfolk, VA; two aunts: Ruby Clark, Atlanta, GA and Readith Moore, Philadelphia, PA; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family thanks everyone in advance for your expressions of sympathy during this time. In addition to flowers and cards donations may be made to the American Lung association to honor Mr Moore's memory.
