Mr. Charlie B. Cummings, Sr.


Mr. Charlie B. Cummings, Sr., passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 in Augusta, Georgia. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at St. James Christian Fellowship Church, Tennille, Georgia with Pastor Mack Jackson officiating. Interment was held in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Charlie B. Cummings, Sr., was born September 28, 1930 in Warthen, Georgia to the late Mr. Charlie Cummings and the late Mrs. Gennie Warthen-Cummings.

He attended the public schools of Washington County. Mr. Cummings was a logger and an avid farmer who worked hard to provide for his family whom he loved dearly. He was also employed by the Irwin, McCoy, Pittman and Tarbutton families as a skilled laborer and grounds keeper.

At an early age, he joined Holly Spring Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member throughout his life. He was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Sara Lizzie Fields and they were blessed with six beautiful children.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife: Mrs. Sara Lizzie Fields-Cummings; son: Mr. Charlie B. Cummings, Jr.; and siblings: J.C., Tommy Lee, Roy, Ella Will, Thelma, Sewilla, Ceola and Ruth.

Mr. Cummings leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters: Mrs. Bessie (Rev. Tom) Miles of Warthen, Georgia, Mrs. Valarie (Pastor Mack) Jackson, Mrs. Mary Ann (Reginald) Massey of Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Jacquelyn (Thomas) Reddick of Covington, Georgia; one son: Mr. Arthur Willie (Virginia) Cummings, Sr. of Soperton, Georgia; one adopted daughter: Mrs. Angela (Rudolph) Lane of Tennille, Georgia; two sisters: Mrs. Lugene Sanford of Sandersville, Georgia Mrs. Patricia (Hubert) Flournoy of Stockbridge, Georgia; one brother: Mr. Willie B. Cummings of Tennille, Georgia; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Eugenia Cummings of Warthen, Georgia; one brother-in-law: Mr. Gregory Wilcox of Tennille, Georgia; special cousin: Mrs. Josephine Simmons; devoted loved ones: Mrs. Agnes Brown, Ms. Jeannette Peacock, Mrs. Bertha Butler, Mr. Zimmie Warthen, Mr. Larry Warthen, Mr. Charlie Barnes, Mrs. Tina Thomas-Marshall and family; a host of loving and devoted grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
