Rev. Lindra Fleming, Sr.


Rev. Lindra Fleming, Sr., Sandersville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Wilhelmina Jordan officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

An avid reader, fluent speaker, loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle and friend, Lindra lived his life in a manner that allowed his work to speak for him.

Joining the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Warthen, Georgia at a young age, Rev. Fleming fostered a love for the Lord and a deep desire to learn, study and teach the word of God; eventually becoming the Superintendent of Sunday School at the ripe age of twelve.

As the years progressed, Rev. Fleming went on to preach his initial sermon on April 26, 1981 entitled, “The Eagle that Stirred the Nest.” Two years later, in 1983, he was ordained as a minister of the gospel and served the Lord in this capacity for the duration of his life including thirty two years of service as Associate Pastor of the Bold Springs Baptist Church.

A 1969 honor graduate of TJ Elder Jr. High School, 1973 graduate of Savannah State College and a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Rev. Fleming shared his gift of speaking and teaching to thousands throughout his community through his career and tenure as an educator in the Washington County Public School System. He also worked as a carpenter and painter throughout his life, often rendering services for the elderly and less fortunate from the goodness of his heart. His special gifts were his artistic skills and superb penmanship.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. George L Womble, Sr. and Mrs. Lena Will Womble and two brothers: Mr. Selwyn Womble and Mr. Larry Womble.

Rev. Fleming leaves cherished memories to his former wife: Mrs. Betty Fleming; son: Mr. Lindra Fleming, Jr.; three grandchildren: Kenyatta Freeman, JaMarcus Fleming, LaMarcus Fleming; two great grandchildren: Jaylen Freeman, Iyanna Freeman; five sisters: Ms. Ella Wadley, Ms. Glenda Womble, Ms. Joyce Womble, Mrs. Barbara (Samuel) Cumming, Mrs. Saketha (Thomas) Butts; three brothers: Mr. George L. Womble, Jr. Mr. Tommy Womble, Mr. Wayne Womble; six sisters-in-law: Mrs. Nether (Lewis) Haynes, Mrs. Bessie Lucas, Mrs. Dorothy Byde, Ms. Mary Jane Brown, Ms. Priscilla Brown, Ms. Debra Brown; four brothers-in-law: Mr. Artis (Lillie Peal) Brown, Sr., Mr. Derral (George) Bishop, Mr. Richard (Telitha) Brown, Mr. John W. Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, church members, other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
