Elder Douglas O. Mason, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Pruitt Health Hospice, Swainsboro, GA.

Elder Mason was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Ozzie Mason, Sr. and the late Mrs. Bessie Ann Mason on May 21, 1940 in Johnson County, GA.

At an early age, Douglas affiliated his Christian walk with the China Temple Holiness Church in Wrightsville, GA. As years passed he moved to Newark, NJ. He was a driver for the New Jersey Transit System. He was also the head bartender for the Golden Peacock where he was known as “Pretty Doug,” because he could flip the glass and catch the rocks and never miss a drop.

After retirement, he relocated back to Georgia where he was the owner of a convenience store where he loved to fix flat tires and tell about “all those raccoons that he didn’t catch, but was so determined that he bought some traps.”

After being led by Christ, he established and built Mason Temple COGIC, the size of Noah’s Ark. Many times he would attend church with very few members. An avid bible scholar and reader, he knew the word of God and if you listened to him, you would know it too.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Mr. Thurman Mason, Sr., Mr. Alvin Mason, Sr., Mrs. Kellar Blair Akins, Mrs. Marsheila Mason Elbert and Mrs. Bessie Lou Mason Stahl.

Elder Mason leaves to cherish his memories two daughters: Ms. Denise Mason, Mrs. Michelle Mason McDonald, Raleigh, NC; two sons: Mr. Douglas Mason, Jr., Cary, NC, Mr. Eric Mason, Orange, NJ; four brothers: Bishop Ozzie (Rose Mary) Mason, Meriden, CT, Dr. James Russell Mason, Mr. Pedro Mason, Swainsboro, GA, Mr. Ellis Mason, Wrightsville, GA; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Mary Mason, Jacksonville, FL; two brothers-in-law: Min.
