Mrs. Eloise H. Williams


Mrs. Eloise H. Williams passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Carlton Shuford officiating. Interment was held in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

She was born to the late Mr. Samuel Hughes, Sr. and the late Mrs. Rosa Hudson Hughes in Queensland/Fitzgerald, Georgia. She was the youngest of three siblings whom preceded her in death: Mr. Seabron Lee Moore, Mr. Samuel Hughes, Jr. and Ms. Atheline H. Rawls.

Mrs. Williams was educated in Queensland, Ben Hill County, Georgia. She received a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Savannah State College and later a degree in Library Science from Georgia College. She was a dedicated educator in Washington County; teaching at D.D. Crawford Elementary, Tennille Elementary as a Lead Reading Teacher and Tennille Elementary Librarian for many years. Her love for education inspired her to teach Adult Education for those seeking to obtain a General Education Development Diploma (GED) for several years.

During her formative years in Queensland, Georgia, Eloise accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of Mountain Top Baptist Church along with her parents and siblings. After moving to Sandersville, Georgia, she became and remained a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church where she served in various capacities.

Eloise had a strong sense of community service which led her to become a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Washington County and the local branch of NAACP. Her devotion to community service also included being a proud charter member of Washington County NB&PW Club, Inc. where she served faithfully for over fifty years as president as well as other positions.

Eloise was the wife of the late Mr. George B. Williams, Jr. for fifty three years. Family was very important to her and her memories will be cherished by her children and surviving family members.

Mrs. Williams is survived by two children: Mrs. Valerie W. (Jimmy) Wright, Mr. B. Gerald (Tawanna) Williams; three grandchildren: Mr. Marcus (Monique) Wright, Ms. Nisha Wright, Ms. Lauren Williams; two great grandchildren: MarLeigh J. Wright, Madison Elaine Wright; nieces and nephews: Mrs. Yvetta Rawls (Dennis) Parks, Mr. Winfred (Nicola) Rawls, Mrs. Debony (LeRoy) Nisbett, Mr. Samuel L. Hughes, Mr. Rapha (Patricia) Moore; several other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
