Mr. Thomas L. Hagans, Sr.


Mr. Thomas L. Hagans, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Wrightsville Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 12 Noon at Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Manzie T. Broxton officiating. Interment was held in Harrison Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas was born on July 31, 1937 to the parentage of the late Mr. Buford Hagans and the late Ms. Julia Mae Outlaw.

He was educated in the public school system of Washington County.

At the age of nineteen, he married his middle school sweetheart, Ms. Tessie Mae Haynes. Together, they raised five children.

Mr. Hagans was a hard-working farmer for over fifty years. He was a faithful member of Beech Grove A.M.E. Church until the doors closed in 2013. During his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Being the friendly person that he was, he never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Mrs. Brenda Hagans Broxton.

Mr. Hagans is survived by his wife: Mrs. Tessie Mae Hagans, Harrison, Georgia; two daughters: Mrs. Tessie (Robert) Bowman, Augusta, Georgia, Ms. Tonya Hagans-Briscoe, Charleston, South Carolina; two sons: Mr. Thomas (Mary) Hagans, Jr., Harrison, Georgia, Mr. Anthony (Diane) Hagans, Sandersville, Georgia; one sister: Mrs. Veris (M.H.) Landers, Augusta, Georgia; one brother: Mr. Tommy (Pauline) Hagans, Sandersville, Georgia; four sisters-in-law: Ms. Mary H. Johnson, Mrs. Nether (Lewis) Haynes, Tennille, Georgia, Ms. Mary Will Pickett, New Jersey, Ms. Sarah Haynes, Atlanta, Georgia; devoted son-in-law: Rev. Manzie T. Broxton, Sandersville, Georgia; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home in charge.
