Mr. James E. West, Jr.


Mr. James E. West, Jr., affectionately known as "Butch" Sandersville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Springfield Baptist Church, Sandersville, Georgia with Rev. Calvin Hatcher officiating. Interment was held in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Mr. West was born on September 15, 1947 in Tifton, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. James E. West, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lena E. West.

He graduated from T.J. Elder High School with the class of 1965. He was also a 1970 graduate of the prestigious Morehouse College with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. West served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

He was a Marketing and Distributive Education teacher at Washington County High School for twelve years. He was employed at numerous Kaolin plants in Washington County for twenty one years. Mr. West also enjoyed photography and was owner of West Photography Studio in Sandersville for many years. Everyone in Washington County who was around during that period of time has a photo taken by him.

Mr. West leaves to cherish his memories his wife: Mrs. Faye Hicks West, Sandersville, Georgia; two sons: Mr. Marcus James West, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Christopher Ewing West, Milledgeville, Georgia; two grandchildren: Miss Destiney Wade, Miss Tiyana West, Huntsville, Alabama; one sister: Ms. Marion West, Sandersville, Georgia; one niece: Ms. Ingrid Irons, New York, New York; six sisters-in-law: Ms. Lois Barnwell, Syracuse, New York, Ms. Brenda Hicks, Poughkeepsie, New York, Mrs. Janet (Julius) Jones, Ms. Arlene Hicks, Mrs. Kathy (Allen) Moment, Sandersville, Georgia, Mrs. Brinda (Alvin) Wilson, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers-in-law: Mr. James E. Hicks, Sandersville, Georgia, Mr. Kenneth (Jane) Hicks, Dover, Delaware; a host of other relatives and friends.
