Mrs. Agnes Lewis Rogers


Mrs. Agnes Lewis Rogers, Newport, Rhode Island passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Grand Islander Health Care Center in Middletown, Rhode Island. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. from Powell Grove Baptist Church. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers was born on April 1, 1936 in Milledgeville, GA to the parentage of the late Mr. Jobie Lewis and the late Mrs. Ida Beck Lewis.

She was always a hard worker, and worked to instill strong values in her family. As a younger woman, she worked for many years at General Electric. She then found her calling in nursing and enjoyed many years helping others, first at Heatherwood Nursing Home and later she retired after many years at John Clark Nursing Home. Through her time at John Clark, she received many accolades and recognition for her hard work, including Employee of the Year awards. Her smile and her energy made her time there much more than just a job.

Agnes was a devoted member of the Cross Point Church, Newport, RI and enjoyed helping with the children’s groups. She was a loving mother and grandmother, ready to provide advice and support, cook a good meal or just to lend an ear. During her life she enjoyed dancing, reading, listening to music, taking long walks through town and having long conversations on the phone with dear friends.

Agnes loved to hear and know that people suffering from alcoholism and addiction made it through and were recovering.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Mr. Milton Rogers, Jr.; grandson: Mr. Don Broom Flowers; sister: Ms. Annie Gay Thomas; and two brothers: Mr. Elliot Lewis and Mr. Jobie Lewis, Jr.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by four children: Mrs. Millicent (George) Reese,, Brandywine, Maryland, Ms. Geraldine Rogers Flowers, Rockville, Maryland, Mr. Milton (Lisa) Rogers, Wakefield, Rhode Island, Mr. Gerome (Heather) Rogers, Manchester, New Hampshire; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
