Mrs. Gesela Major Hodges

Mrs. Gesela Major Hodges, was called home on Friday Afternoon, May 26, 2017. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Georgia Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Grissom officiating. Interment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Hodges was born on April 16, 1917 in Tennille, GA to the parentage of the late Mr. Herman Major and the late Mrs. Minnie Wilcher Major.

She was educated in the Washington County School System. She was a member of Mt. Zion Second Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA and Georgia Grove Baptist Church, Tennille, GA.

Mrs. Hodges or Ges as she was affectionately known, loved her family and the family gatherings. She loved to fish, watch the Atlanta Braves play, and play cards. Ges always had kind words for anyone who crossed her path.

She was preceded in death by her son: Mr. Donald Hodges, Sr.

Mrs. Hodges leaves to cherish her memories two daughters: Mrs. Connie (Ralph) Johnson, Decatur, GA, Mrs. Edith (Mainard) Mills, Las Vegas, NV; two sons: Mr. John Major, Decatur, GA, Mr. Ranson Coleman, New York; one foster daughter: Mrs. Mamie Kate Carstarphen, South Carolina; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Nina Hodges; four grandchildren: Mr. Jermain Johnson, Summerfield, FL, Ms. Mindy Johnson, Mr. Donald Hodges, Jr., Mr. Reginald Hodges, Decatur, GA; devoted nephew: Mr. Calvin Taylor, Decatur, GA; a host of other relatives and friends. M.C. Smith Funeral Home was in charge.
